Frequently Asked Questions

  • Each kit contains a fully colonized mushroom block that is ready to grow. Simply place it in a humid room-temperature area with indirect light, remove the tape to open the cut section, and mist with water daily. Within 5–10 days, mushrooms will begin to form.

  • No experience is needed. The kit is designed for beginners and includes simple step-by-step instructions. If you can mist with water, you can grow mushrooms.

  • Place the kit on a kitchen counter, table, or shelf where there is natural light but no direct sun. Avoid placing it near heating vents or very dry areas.

  • Mist the exposed area 2–3 times per day to keep it moist. The goal is to maintain a humid environment, not soak the block.

  • You will typically see small pins (baby mushrooms) within 7–10 days, and they will be ready to harvest just a few days after that.

  • Yes. Most kits will produce 2–3 flushes (harvests) if cared for properly. After the first harvest, continue misting and allow the block to rest for about a week before the next growth begins.

  • Harvest when the mushroom caps are fully formed but still slightly curved downward. Simply twist and pull the cluster gently from the block.

  • Store fresh mushrooms in a paper bag in the refrigerator and use them within 5–7 days for best quality.

  • Normal indoor temperatures between 18–24°C (65–75°F) are ideal. No special equipment is required.

  • Absolutely. The kit is popular for families, food lovers, and anyone curious about growing their own food. It’s an interactive experience as well as a delicious one.

  • Yes — a greenhouse or small indoor greenhouse is an excellent environment for the grow kit. These spaces naturally help maintain the higher humidity and stable temperatures that oyster mushrooms love. Place the kit on a shaded shelf with indirect light, avoid direct sun, and continue light misting as needed. A mini greenhouse can make the process even easier by keeping conditions consistent and supporting strong, healthy harvests.

  • Yes. If your home is dry, you can loosely place a clear plastic bag or container over the kit to help hold moisture and create a mini humid environment. Make sure it is not sealed — the mushrooms still need fresh air to grow properly. Leave small openings or lift it daily to allow air exchange while keeping the humidity inside.

  • Oyster mushrooms grow best in a humid environment of about 80–90% humidity. Keeping the surface lightly misted and maintaining moisture in the surrounding air will help support healthy growth and full, beautiful clusters.

  • Once it stops fruiting, the block can be composted or added to a garden bed, where it may continue to enrich the soil naturally.

  • They are locally grown, in province of Ontario, using natural straw and carefully prepared to be ready to fruit when they reach your home.
